My husband and I went down to the crystal coast this past weekend! Our trip to what feels like home was long overdue. Even though it was chilly, we bundled up and went out on the boat for most of the day on Saturday. We did some trout fishing early on, which was conveniently located near Beaufort. When lunch time came around, I was begging to walk around those quaint streets. A newer addition to the Beaufort waterfront restaurant scene is Moonrakers. The restaurant opened this past summer. It features three exquisite levels (including the rooftop bar area), all beautifully decorated. Coastal artwork, painted by Raleigh local Sharon Bass, lines the walls of the entire restaurant. The main floor features both indoor and outdoor seating. The kitchen overlooks the indoor seating area, while the outdoor patio overlooks the water, a spectacular view. The second floor houses a banquet room, great for events such as company dinners, wedding events or even holiday parties. Finally, the third floor is a completely open, outdoor bar area. It was very chilly up top on Saturday, but we agreed that it is going to be a great spot next summer when the weather is warmer!
For our meals, we enjoyed salads and fresh fish tacos. The Kale Caesar salad is my favorite. Mandarin oranges boarder the dish while freshly sliced parmesan cheese lays on top of a kale based salad tossed in a homemade caesar dressing. You have the option to top it with a protein such as grilled chicken, fish or shrimp.
My husband ordered the Grilled Swordfish Tacos, and they were also very good. Topped with freshly made pico de gallo and served with a side, this is the perfect meal for a fish lover. On the menu, they were listed as the mahi tacos, but the chef had to sub out the mahi for swordfish. My hubby had the mahi tacos last time, and in comparison both tasted very good. Another recommendation from the Moonrakers menu is the the Margarita Flatbread. I ordered it the last time we visited the restaurant, and it was delicious. It would be a great thing to split with someone along with a salad.
The cocktails are wonderful! Over the course of several visits, we've tried a hand full of the specialty cocktails - all were great. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the Moonrakers specialty Painkiller. It could very well be my dessert!
All in all, we have had wonderful experiences at Moonrakers, and we look forward to many more! Especially the ones this summer when we can enjoy the sunset from the rooftop bar. Check out more info about the restaurant here.
